Empty states tell the user the next action, never just “no data”. Upload + list are UI-NOW / READ-P3. Creating a review table and adding questions is the 4A schema work API-NEW.
No documents yet. Upload the contracts or sources you want to review.
In the first slice you create a blank review table, then add your first question by hand. No setup, no sales call.
Once the table exists you add questions (e.g. “Governing law”, “Liability cap”) and cells are generated per document × question.
Curated starter tables are a later convenience — not in 4A. Shown disabled here; build a blank table and add questions instead.
A new user can create a matter, create a blank review table, add a question, upload a document and see a populated cell with provenance in one session.
Open question (blueprint §7.5). Do templates live per-user, per-matter, or shared? “Per user” keeps onboarding simple; shared/firm templates are deferred enterprise sprawl.
